We, as the Vestry of St. Paul's Church, are very excited to both honor St. Paul's history and to embrace the challenges of the current community, as we move forward to effect positive changes for our parishioners, church and communities.

Rev. Ed Bird, Interim Rector

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in DeKalb is happy to announce that The Rev. Ed Bird has accepted a call to serve as Interim Rector. Father Ed most recently served in Chicago at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and St. Leonard’s Ministries. He also serves as a director at Summer in the City, a camp for urban youth run through St. James Cathedral in Chicago. Father Ed and his wife Beth have relocated to DeKalb.

Pat Brown, Treasurer


Patricia (Pat) Brown, Treasurer, has been a member of St. Paul's Church since 1967. She is a "cradle" Episcopalian who grew up in a Chicago suburb and settled in DeKalb as an NIU faculty spouse. With an AB, and M Ed, she "recycled" herself after her daughter was grown, took accounting courses at NIU, and became a CPA. She has had an office in downtown DeKalb since 1980. Pat became Church Treasurer in January of 2010. She serves on the Altar Guild, the Endowment Committee, and has been a Vestry member, a member of a former Search Committee, and for at least seven years has been Co-Chairperson of the Lobster Boil. 


Pat is a member of the DeKalb/Sycamore Altrusa Club, and served two terms on the DeKalb School Board in the '90's. Pat enjoys fishing, traveling, gardening and reading when not working. She also enjoys spending time with her daughter Laura, who works in Washington DC for the FAA as Deputy Assistant Administrator of Public Affairs.

Julie Stubblefield, Vestry


Julie and her family have been members at St. Paul since 2008. She has served on various committees and taught Sunday school. 


Julie currently is a second grade teacher at Brooks Elementary School in DeKalb, and has taught for fifteen years.


Julie loves spending time with her family: husband Jamie, sons Luke and Liam and daughter Ava. She also loves cooking and running.

Marv Kombrink, Vestry

Marv Kombrink has been a member at St. Paul’s with his wife, Pam, since April, 2016.  After 25 years in the corporate world, he found a new career in real estate. He is an avid golfer, and dedicates much of his time to raising and training service dogs and working with therapy dogs. 

 

Marv is an active volunteer with the Fox Valley Therapy Dog Club, Pet Partners, Therapy Dogs International, Canine Companions for Independence, Fox Valley Hands of Hope (formerly Hospice), and also ushers with Pam and participates in fellowship. He and Pam have three sons and nine grandchildren. This is Marv’s first time as a Vestry member.

Peggy Newby, Sr. Warden 


Peg came to St. Paul's in 2004, and has been actively involved in fellowship activities, Altar Guild, and Sunday ministries. She has served on two previous Vestries, and this is her second time as Sr. Warden.  


A retired registered nurse, Peg keeps busy with family, church, and travel.  She is married and lives in Sycamore.

Freyja Rasmussen-Johns, Jr. Warden

The Vestry is happy to announce that Freyja Rasmussen-Johns has agreed to join them as Jr. Warden.  Freyja was last on the Vestry from 2011 – 2013, and served as Clerk. She recently retired from the staff at Northern Illinois University and  we are grateful for Freyja’s willingness to step into this role at St. Paul's.. 
Gretchen Schlabach, Vestry

Gretchen has been a member at St. Paul's since 1991, has served on the vestry several times, and enjoys participating in the liturgy on Sunday mornings as Eucharist Minister and Acolyte. 

Gretchen recently retired from Northern Illinois University where she was Professor of Athletic Training. She enjoys her continued work in her field with research related to Professional Ethics. She enjoys exploring Chicago, sports, professional service and the community of friends at St. Paul's.
Linda Lorbach, Vestry

Linda has been at St. Paul's since 2011 and this is her first time to be on the Vestry. 

Linda enjoys participating in the liturgy with singing in the church choir as well as sharing her voice as a lector and intercessor. She will be heading up the Thrive Garden for the 2017 season.

Brad Smith, Vestry

Brad has been a member at St. Paul's since 2011 and this is his first time as a vestry member. 

He and his wife, Rebecca, enjoy being active in the Thrive Garden.
